Direct purchase

Physical gold and silver, quietly acquired.

For clients who want to hold metals outside a retirement account, with delivery to your door or into secure, insured storage.

Summary

Key takeaways

  • A direct purchase means you own the metal outright, outside any retirement account, delivered to you or held in an approved depository in your name.
  • Standard bullion coins and bars are usually the appropriate default; higher-premium coins are offered only when you understand the trade-offs.
  • Every quote is time-stamped and shows spot, premium, and total, with a defined window to decide and no obligation.
  • Orders are confirmed in writing, funded by bank wire, and locked at the quoted price before metal moves.
  • You can sell metals back to Dormy later at prevailing market bid, with no pressure to trade up.

Before you wire anything

What a fair quote looks like.

Every Dormy quote shows three things plainly: the live spot price it is based on, the premium over spot for the specific product and quantity, and the total you would pay. Nothing is bundled or hidden in a single number.

The quote is time-stamped and good for a defined window, because spot moves. You are free to take it, leave it, or ask questions, there is no obligation and no follow-up pressure. If you accept, the order is confirmed in writing and the price is locked at the quoted figure before any metal moves.

If any dealer, including us, cannot show you spot, premium, and total separately, that is a reasonable reason to pause. You can read more on our pricing page.

Spot

The live market price the quote is based on.

Premium

The disclosed amount over spot for your product and quantity.

Total

The full number you would pay. Nothing bundled or hidden.

What we source

Three categories, explained on their own terms.

No pressure to trade one for another. Each has a role, and a different premium structure, that we walk through with you before you buy.

Bullion coins

Sovereign-minted gold & silver coins

American Gold Eagles, Gold Buffalos, Canadian Maples, and their silver counterparts are the most recognizable form of physical metal. They are easy to verify, easy to sell in small quantities, and priced close to spot plus a modest premium. For most first-time buyers, this is where the conversation starts.

Bars

LBMA-approved gold & silver bars

Bars from established, LBMA-approved refiners are the cost-efficient way to hold a larger position. The premium per ounce is typically lower than coins, and each bar carries assay documentation. Common sizes run from 1 oz to 1 kilo, and larger on request. The trade-off is flexibility: a kilo bar is one unit, so a partial sale means selling the whole bar.

Premium coins

Select higher-premium coins

A limited menu of coins carrying higher premiums for collectibility or scarcity exists for clients who specifically want them. We explain the trade-offs candidly, including the narrower resale market, and we do not present them as required for privacy or "confiscation protection."

After purchase

Delivery or storage, your call.

Both options come with insurance and clear documentation. The right choice depends on how quickly you may want to sell and how much you want at home.

Secure delivery

Insured, discreet packaging

Shipped via insured carrier with adult signature required. Packaging carries no branding indicating metals inside. Tracking shared with you privately.

Approved storage

Segregated depository allocation

Metals delivered directly into an approved depository in your name, segregated or commingled, with depository insurance and clear documentation of ownership.

A candid note

On premium coins.

Some dealers steer clients toward high-premium numismatic or "semi-numismatic" coins as a matter of course. Dormy does not. Standard bullion is usually the appropriate default. Premium coins are offered only when the client understands the higher premium, narrower resale market, and the fact that they are not a hedge against government "confiscation", that framing is not supported by the record.

How a direct purchase works

Four steps, coordinated privately.

  1. Introductory call

A short private conversation about what you're looking to accomplish, the products you're considering, and any timing considerations. No scripts, no pressure.

  2. Current pricing

A time-stamped quote covering spot, premium, and total, good for a defined window while you decide. You are free to take it, leave it, or ask questions.

  3. Order & settlement

The order is confirmed in writing, funded via bank wire, and locked at the quoted price. Nothing moves until the paperwork is clear.

  4. Delivery or storage

Metals ship insured to your door in discreet packaging, or are delivered directly into your chosen approved depository in your name.

Common questions

Direct-purchase questions we hear most.

Minimums depend on the product, market conditions, and order logistics. Dormy confirms any applicable minimum before you authorize a purchase.

Quotes are based on live spot price plus a disclosed premium that reflects the product, quantity, and current market. Quotes are time-stamped and valid for a short window.

Bank wire is standard for direct purchases. The specific instructions are shared once your order is confirmed in writing.

Yes. Dormy treats client information as confidential. Standard IRS reporting rules apply to certain transactions, we'll tell you clearly if and when that applies to yours.

Yes. We buy back metals we've sold at prevailing market bid, a straightforward process with no pressure to trade up into higher-premium products.

Coins are more recognizable and easier to sell in small amounts; bars usually carry a lower premium per ounce and suit larger positions. Many clients hold some of each. We walk through the trade-offs for your situation before you decide.

There is no right answer, and we will not push a number on you. Most clients start with an amount they are comfortable holding for years, not money they may need back soon. A specialist can talk through sizing in the context of your broader finances.
